Not tried them but if you can get hold of some weights, wrist curls and reverse wrist curls would be a lot better, and the work your grip to.

Powerball's are pretty good for increasing wrist/forearm strength....... just think you could have arms like this dude!

...but be careful, it's easy to overload the wrist and grind those little bones away.

As a teen I used the sprung grip things to get my forearm/grips strength up, combined with traditional weight training using barbells and dumbells and curling bar I was able to shake off the mr.puniverse image before getting to uni

They do work but get very boring, used to use similar things when I was an apprentice so I could do up pipes as tight as the old boy showing my how to.
