After discussions in Wales about braking, I realised I'd been using my middle finger to brake, even though I wasn't happy with the grip on the bars.
With my new bike and its fancy-pants adjustable reach levers,  I've discovered index finger braking   Feels soooo much more comfortable and safe.....

So, what do you do?

Originally middle then moved my levers and now index or both depending on terrain/speed/lever feel.

Index only, it's the only way I can brake now. I broke the lever clamp on the Juicy today trying to get the rear lever inboard enough on the Inbred's ridiculously thick bars as I can't 2 finger brake at all any more.

Index and middle for me, just brake the same way I do on my (motor) bike (why change as I am after the same effect  )

The older I get the faster I was!

When I saw the title of this thread I thought you were talking about an entirely different scenario

*chuckles*

Index mostly, index & middle when sketchy descents require it.
Think I need to fettle with my cockpit as it goes, still completely standard; Grip, Shifter, Brake with no gaps between brackets.

I used to use only my index but for a while now had been using index and middle as I need to bleed my brakes

I use middle only, but after BBH last week, I have decided that I should use at least two fingers when trying to stop down fast descents.

Wayne is lying, he doesn't brake in summer and only uses snowmen in winter

On my old bike with old style shimano shifters i used middle finger as shifter with thumb and index... hence the uncertainty but on the boardman index only is possible, both when panicking!
