Morning All

My old Berghaus 25 daypack has come to the end of its days so I'm on the look out for a new daypack for commuting and general use.  I had brought THIS as a replacement which seemed a bargain at the time, good size, sprung back, raincover and only £25.  Sadly its been somewhat of a disappointment    The sprung back tensioner gave out immediately and then last week the bag got snagged on a branch which ripped open the side mesh pocket, split the stiching where the main panels meet and also split the stiching on both the straps    I wouldnt have minded if this had been the result of a major off however it wasnt.

Anyhoo all this leads me to needing another new bag to fit the following criteria:

  • 25 litres
  • Vented/sprung back
  • Raincover
  • Not prone to falling to pieces at the first sign of a tree

Any recommendations from the masses

Wow, great ship man.  Looks like a fish, flies like a fish, steers like a cow...

Always used DaKine gear and it is frankly excellent. Actually made by mountain bikers for mountain biking... Not as a crossover pack for all sorts of other stuff. The Amp 25 fits your bill quite nicely, even has the rain cover...

Just looked at the Regatta pack a bit closer, the fact it has "mouldable walking pole holders" would of put me right off!

The two ridges are very prominent, it uses the same back system as the Nomad pack which i have, it is vented, not sprung, but i find mine really comfortable to wear. Bikers tend to move around the cockpit a lot, so they need something that is flexible and works with their body. Walkers have a much stiffer body position and want something to keep their binoculars in... See if you can have a look at one in a store. Activ in Folkestone have them in i think.

Sorry but not convinced, I want a sprung back to improve airflow and reduce sweat.

It doesnt have it, its out.

I've been looking at a couple of Vaude & Lowe Alpine bags which look more what I'm after.

Id be concerned that a sprung back will be unstable on the back when on steep rough terrain. There must be a reason as to why all of the major mtb bags are not sprung back.

Those two ridges on the nomad that you can see in the shot are about an inch thick and vented. That's the only bit that touches your back. Works a treat... Your spine doesn't come into contact with the pack which makes for smooth airflow.

I'm with Russ on this one, try before you buy and all that, but seriously it's a cracking pack and the chances are it won't fall apart when you hot a tree, in fact my nomad was the only thing to come back from the alps not torn to shreds. Which is impressive as i spent a fair amount of time rolling down sharp rocks on it as any of the guys will testify.

Potential bag shopping oppertunity for me this afternoon.  I got a bag from Cotswold in Notcuts (maidstone) but it doesnt sit right when loaded so thats going back.  Where else is there locally to medway with a good selection of bags?
