Been using my 2003 East Peak loasds this summer so decided it upgrade a few bits, started looking for some decent forks, got these in the end from on one...
RockShox Reba Team Dual Air 100mm Fork with BB Motion Control and PushLoc / White / 9mm QR / 1 1/8

Then whilst I was at it thought I should replace the headset with a taper roller bearing one, then thought I would try a shorter stem, as my 110mm long one is a bit slow on the twisty single tracks, that I thought was it, but then of course I realised I would need a new front brake to fit on the new fork, so I got a Julie HP as my older Julies had done me so well..

Managed to get it all fitted today without too much drama, been for a quick blast to get the brakes bedded in & very impressed, although I have taken the Pushloc off already, I just know I’ll never use it & it took the space my bell used to occupy!

Will be out for a blast round blean first thing tomorrow to test it out in anger.. will let you know how I get on.

Andy

On my way to work today I was riding up from Nashenden Farm Lane onto Hill Road & Common Road to the viewpoint on BBH. Shortly after the trail becomes Hill Road I came across row apon row of hardcore across the track at intervals of approx 2 metres or so. It would appear that the resurfacing that was carried out near Detling has carried onto to this section now . There is no fencing across the track or any notices to say what is happening or how long the work will carry on for.

Cycle To Work Scheme - moved goalposts!

Got a letter this morn regarding my cycle to work scheme's "final market value" (FMV) payment
Everything told us that the FMV would be 5% of original value, as it's been for the last few years; ie £50+VAT for a £1000 bike yeah.

Apparently the HMRC have "just issued reviewed guidelines on calculating FMV"

so my £1000 bike's FMV is £293.75 - clearly 25%(+ vat) not 5% *GRRRR*

That changes the whole game, suddenly the C2W discount goes from 40% to 10% - a figure you could probably get goods to the value of & still leave the bike shop with a healthier profit than they didn't get thru cycle to work.
I won't be using the CTW scheme again if this will be the outcome, it's a lot of faffing about for very little bonus.

NB: That's the situation as of August 2010, so if you're still paying off your CTW bike, get saving for a bigger final payment than you expected
