Took two bikes (DMR and roadie) back to parents for them to look after while I'm moving. Remembered my $hitecommuter in Glasgow is knackered and ended coming back home with a new thiefproof commuter bike. It's a handbuilt Holdsworth racer frame from... 1959! I know this as it was built for my dad when he was 14! holy carp dude! It's painted with hammerite 'cos my dad thought it would be a good idea some time ago, I've stuck some standard MTB riser bars on it and it's the most demented looking thing I've ever thrown my leg over, and I've ridden some proper weirdos... (all hot tho )

But if the rubbishness of it is enough to keep the theives away then I'm happy and I know I can keep it running smoothly whilst still maintaining that 'unmaintained' look. Will it make it to it's 60th birthday, it's already over 50!

Going to Wales at the end of September to ride a route featured in Cycling Active Summer 2010 issue.

The route starts and finishes at Llanwddyn Dam and takes you along the B4393, B4403 and accross the Bwlch y Groes Summit at 1788ft.

The ride will be around 35 miles, so not that bad at all, but there will be a lot of climbing, 1250ft of it within 5 miles.....

I definetely have availability for 1 or 'possibly 2' other Sketchy members (will have to check and do a recky and dismantle bikes including wheels, forks/headset etc., before i can confirm on 2, but definetely have the space for 1 more).

I'm thinking of leaving on the Friday night after work, riding the Saturday and coming back on the Sunday, so two nights accomodation will be required (Fri & Sat), i'm flexible on dates/accomodation, would like to keep it as cheap as possible though, nothing too flash, as i say flexible on dates.

If anybody is interested in joining me then let me know.

'The Bwlch y Groes is also known as the Hellfire Pass, and was used between and after the wars by the Austin Motor Company and the Standard Triumph Motor Company to test prototype cars and their performance during Hillclimbing.[2] The southern ascent of the Bwlch y Groes, which is approximately 1.7 miles long with severe gradients throughout (steepest 1 in 4), was renowned throughout the 1970s and 80s as the most challenging climb used in the Milk Race round-Britain cycle race.'

Here are some photos:-

Can't find my reciept so free to anyone who wants it. Would be ideal to throw up in the garden for the kids and either chuck or store once winter's in full swing
