Smile Time for a classic... What Tyres?
Posted by: dubster - 11-22-2016, 12:34 PM - Forum: Buying Advice - Replies (10)

To get some conversation happening here, thought I'd pose the age old question we hit every autumn/winter time Big Grin
I need some fresh tyres on my T130, but what works well in wintery slop?

Am told Maxxis High Roller II works fab as a front & rear pair in all conditions, but also hear the Ardent (which I've always got on with) makes a better rear tyre than the HRII. Conversely I'm told the Ardent is slidy as hell on the rear in winter.

How about Scwalbe Hans Dampf, as I've heard great things about em?

What's your opinion oh lovely Sketchy folk of sound knowledge and advice?  Smile

Update for ladies:
Ladies only tickets go on sale on Thursday 1st December at 09:00 at the price of £160 for all 4 rounds of the Transition Bikes Southern Enduro Series. Categories: ladies fun, ladies 18-39 & ladies 40+. Minimum number of 3 to make a category.

Tickets for the 2 day Southern Enduro Champs will be £60 – tickets go on sale TBC.
Each race will be run over one day and consist of four stages, predominately downhill. Practice in the morning and race in the afternoon.
Check us out on Facebook: https://facebook.com/southernenduro

I raced the whole series last year and really enjoyed it, and now enduro 1 is no more this is the most local enduro events to the south east. I'm booking in to do the lot because trying to get into each individual race is almost impossible as they sell out in minutes. Mrs skid is also going in for this.

  Baggy Shorts & Knee Pads...
Posted by: dubster - 05-18-2016, 11:46 AM - Forum: Buying Advice - Replies (10)

With new bike comes new clothing Smile
Suppose I had to give up the lycra shorts at some point, and going full sus is definitely that time.

So, can I have some useful recommendations on baggy shorts, normal or 3/4 I don't care (or know tbh!)
Budget realistically about £50 I guess. Endura and Altura have a few decent options.

I'm also looking at knee pads for the near future, lightweight & breathable but actually work when you need em to.

I'm wary of online reviews, so figured the great Sketchy crew would have more plenty of experience & knowledge.

  Gear ratios, 3x9 26" vs 1x11 27.5"
Posted by: dubster - 05-17-2016, 11:07 AM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Having a ponder on gearing, as I'll soon be on a new bike with 1x11, from my current 3x9.
Found a crackin site that figures it all out for ya: http://gears.mtbcrosscountry.com/#26I37I...5I1567I947

Turns out I'll lose the top 2 gears in the big ring and the lowest gear in granny, but that's all Big Grin

Excellent tool, you can add boxes to compare setups too Smile
