Sketchy NZ!
Nick is in Australia I think.
Nick and Mark were the first thing I thought of when I heard the news this morning

I know Mark was heading for Christchurch but I dont know how long he was satying there?  Undecided

Fingers crossed

The antipodeans have had a right gutful of natural disasters this year, my thoughts go out to all those that have suffered  Sad
Waiting to hear from my friend in Motueka to see if he felt it. Used to live in Dunedin so would have felt more down there
Best wishes to all, travelling skechites and people who live in NZ.
Mark's mother got a call from him this morning.  He and Claire were 100 miles away and unaffected.  I updated his blog for those of you that are following that.
That's good news! Just been frantically catching up on their blog trying to figure out where they might be. Watching the coverage on the news this morning and it was catastrophic, no doubt most of the buildings were weakened by the other earthquake last year.
Anyone know where Nick is? Weren't he and Mark supposed to meet up in Queenstown sometime this week?

Edit: Just got a message from Nat, he's on the Gold Coast, so panic over Smile
phew.... for the two
Yer.....spoke to my friend who is in Motueka up top of the South Island. He didnt feel this one but the December one had his house creaking and drawers rattling etc despite being 150-200 miles away in a straight line! That one was bigger but further underground, this one only 5km down

7.1 on the scale is 16 times stronger than 6.3, bit odd! shows how big last years was which obviously lead to hidden damage in Christchurch. Lucky that one didnt hit nearer..........

Yep i'm in Australia so missed it by a couple of days. 48 odd hours earlier i was at the base of the cathedral tower deciding whether to go up. Very scary indeed!

Glad Mark and Claire are ok, i was worried about them. A guy that i met travelling would have been somewhere near at that time, i hope he got through and missed it.

So gutted for the city and its people. It had a great vibe and was recovering well from the first one. I hope the spirit i saw there will get them through this too.

Its very sobering and puts a lot of life's problems into perspective
