There's a group called Kent Trails on fb who normally post weekly local rides with monthly longer rides iirc so that could be worth a look.

You'll find as the weather improves there will be more people out and about as the ground drains quite badly this time of year so it can be a bit of a swamp in places.

Yep there is a regular Thursday evening ride from Oaks Nursery car park at 18:00, and usually a 4 hour ish ride on Sat and/or Sunday depending on who is available to lead. The weekend rides could be anywhere in Kent and Sussex, but as Stayhigh said we are limited as to where to ride by the weather, most area's are very muddy at the moment, but still always good rides even if we have to take in more road and fire road bits at the moment.

It's a real shame the way the forum has gone, it used to be a fun and lively place with regular rides on evenings and weekends, but as mentioned FB and Watsapp etc have taken over and people have moved on. I have given up posting evening rides as got fed up of talking to myself!

Its a fact that its not the same Forum it was a few years back & I'm sad to say that if I were Paul I'd close it down Sad

It costs less than 10 a year so I am not too worried.
Facebook is a lot easier, and once people get out of the habit of using a forum it is difficult to get them back

I would have thought that one of the reasons this forum failed is that hardly any rides were posted.Far to much talking about MTB,rather than doing it.A few rides during the week, hardly any at weekends.Rides were often the same places over and over, very few original rides. And when someone did post a ride at such and such a time, there was reply after reply of why people could,nt do it at that time/day/place.Eventually a agreement was reached, the ride posted, but instead of the 6 or 8 turning up as promised,2 or 3 would turn up.With all the post ride excuses of why they couldn't go.Also there seemed to be a few rides which were arranged off forum,to the select few.

Agree with some of that but Sketchy in its hayday was much more than just a place to arrange rides. I must admit I don't post rides anymore for that very reason... the morning of the ride there were 8 people going, by midday that had reduced to 6, by end of play that was 3 & when you turned up nobody else did... Far too many occasions this happened & instead of getting out on my own in daylight hours I was left standing in a cold dark carpark on my own so didn't get out at all.
I also think it all became very clicky with people using first names all the time. Nothing in itself wrong with that but if you stumble across a thread where everybody is using first names you get the impression that its more of a personal conversation & thus don't feel you should participate, threads become very personal to those involved & made others feel a bit on the outside looking in. Fine if its just a few but in reality it was every thread as over the years we had all got to know each other on a personal basis. Just my opinion Big Grin
