just have to be careful of distances - we stayed in Bala last summer

as weather not enough to do watersports etc ended up driving to coast/Snowdon a bit too much

although Bala close to some great DH stuff (private and uplift only) it was too far from better places for riding like Marin trail (Betws-y Coed and Penmachno) and also coast (see below)

some of their visitor attractions charge the earth like Slate Caverns and Snowdon railway so check stuff out before you go

kids loved fishing for crabs at Barmouth and some good seaside towns - Barmouth pretty close to Coedy and also a cycle trail along the estuary to Barmouth from Dollgellau (beaches good can blow off the sea a bit)

We stay at a cottage about 25 minute drive from Betws y Coed, its off the A5 near a place called Maerdy and a pub called The Goat Inn.  If I knew how to mark it on googlemaps and link it here I would which would be much more helpful  :B

From there you can get to Betws, Penmachno, CYB (40 mins) and other places like the Sygun Copper mines and National Slate Centre near Snowdon.  You've also got several small towns in the area with supermarkets etc to get stocked up.

I can PM you the details later on once I'm back from work if you like?

They have three places at this location and we have stayed at all of them as just the two of us, with some friends and with our two boys and have had no problems with them.  The two main cottages would be better for a family as the barn is smaller and more suited to a couple IMO.

The first cottage has got a double bedroom upstairs, a room with three single beds downstairs and in the lounge there is a pull down bed.

The second cottage has a larger lounge area with a big double room a smaller double room and a room with two single beds.

Finally the barn has an open plan bedroom upstairs with a double bed one end and two singles the other.

All the cottages have log burners in the lounges as well as oil central heating and hot water.  There are meters for the oil & electric for which the Owens’ will note the current reading so you can work out how much you have used.  They all have a TV although IIRC only the first cottage has a DVD player which is combined with the telly.

There are local supermarkets up the road in Ruthin (20 mins) and beyond Betws in Llanwrst and on the way to Llangollen is the Rhug estate farm shop which sells very nice fresh meat and veg as well as Bison burgers which are silly expensive but very nice.

The Owens themselves are lovely, very welcoming and happy to help.  We have stayed 5 times with them now and are more then happy to recommend staying here.  Its normally Mrs Stayhigh that organises all the bookings etc but have found these on tinterweb:
