The ice palace was still there in September?! How high is the Jungfrau? I thought Mont Blanc was the only European mountain to be permanently snowcapped

Me in the middle . Taken straight after finishing a 40km XC duathlon in Dec '08. Bloody freezing weather and I'd never do it again (!) Summer triathlons only from now on  Smile

That's me, i was on prime time TV last year and scared the living cr@p out of a lot of people that knew me from school and were enjoying a quiet evening in watching channel 4. I was talking about a pro kiter friend of mine, saying how hard she was. With the joys of editing they cut from me saying that to her throwing up over the side of a boat in the southern ocean in Australia.

Only just saw that post Andy. I think they redo the ice palace, one of the sculptors was there and told me a bit about it, how its constantly moving etc. He pointed out the salt lines in the wall and at one end it was head height then as you went down the other, it was near the floor, constantly moving with the glacier.

No idea if its snow capped all the time, the station is at 3454m, Jungfrau 4158. No wonder I was knackered walking to the remote hut, quote "Higher still, a marked out and poled trail leads up over the glacier to the Monchsjoch Hut at 3657 metres, the highest hiking trail in the Alps."  took me quite a while and was down to t shirt only up top despite it being -9C !!

My photos are here http://complexdreams.com/pics/Eurotrip20...index.html
