Laptop hard drive recovery
#1
Hi gents,

My father in law's laptop has died and he would like to see if any of the data that was stored on the hard drive can be recovered. He's been told by his regular PC help chap that it can't be done, but am I right in saying that some people are better at this type of thing than others? Are there any specialists in Kent that anyone can recommend?

How dead is the hard drive? I'd try plugging it into another computer with a spare SATA port and seeing if it is recognized, and whats there.

You don't want to connect the HD to a spare SATA port without knowing how to prevent write access to the drive as this can cause further corruption.

I've got a mate in Maidstone who managed to recover files on my laptop when I took it to PC World (I know, stupid mistake) for a 'health check' whereupon they completely flattened it and reinstalled Windows. I could have killed them but my buddy took the laptop and managed to find virtually everything. Don't know if he'd want something for doing it, but if you want me to ask just message me and I'll see if he can take a look.
